Top Law Schools

Just in case JMLS people read TLS.

I went to their evening open house and left with pretty bad impression. A couple points :

1. The new Dean spoke for less than 20 mins and rushed out of the room. She was so ill-prepared and showed no knowledge about the school. She was talking garbage like "Why lawyer is the best job in the world" and "I chose JMLS because of its diversity".

2. The student panel was made of three students: a 3L who thinks the most important thing for an applicant is the Character & Fitness test, a 2L whose only complaint about the law school is the cafe, and a 1L who doesn't know whether the classes are graded on a curve.

3. The school tour went well. However, when we finished the tour and went back to say goodbye to the professors and the Dean, they were long gone, leaving the guide feeling a bit embarrassed herself.

I sincerely hope JMLS can do better next time.

I am actually quite surprised you didn't attend the open house with a bad impression to begin with.

For whatever reason I actually found this pretty interesting. Thank you for your service.

Thank goodness that JMLS is such a highly regarded school with fantastic employment statistics to justify attending despite this experience!

Wait. Hold on. Just wait a goddamn minute.

Do you mean that everyone on the planet with half a brain has been telling you the truth about this law school for months? Are you telling me that none of us were just trying to free up a coveted spot at John Marshall for ourselves? People were actually giving you good advice because they understood that a degree from the pothole on the street outside JMLS is more valuable than a degree from JMLS?

This made me uncomfortable.

I had this same experience with Harvard. The Dean never called me. They didn't invite me to ASW, said my invite was lost! (yea right) When I got there, they would not let me go on the tour with the rest of the group bc I didn't have a name tag. (This of course was the admissions staff's fault for losing my invitation) When I was able to talk to some 2Ls and 3Ls their only complaint was that since we were already at Harvard it was really hard to bring up Harvard in a conversation, but they said that problem would be resolved when they graduated and moved to NYC and could then explain to ppl that they attended a school near Boston... and no, not Tufts.

It made me think that a debt-free education at John Marshall may actually be worth more than the prestige of HLS. Basically what I am saying is, you cant trust the internet and #YOLO

I would question the judgment of someone at JMLS who would even consider the cafe when there are at least 20 really good and cheap dining options within a couple of blocks. That alone would make me suspicious of their student population.

They're right about retaking if your only option is to go to this school or it's peers. A majority of retake threads aren't about that though.

I think there is so much sarcasm and trolling in this thread that I am thoroughly confused. Either way, don't go to John Marshall. Got it.

If this is in Atlanta, you need to stop. Don't go here. Go to Georgia State. Atleast the tuition is reasonable there. John Marshall has zero lay prestige in the middle class.

The 3L wasn't joking. Screw up in the C&F process and you'll have 300K in student debt and perpetually unemployable.
