Letter of Recommendation/Personal Statement

Post by carey34 » Wed Jan 25, 2017 12:47 am

Does it look bad to schools to have a Letter of Recommendation written by the owner of a law firm that one of my parents is a partner at? He has plenty to write about as I've done a fair amount of work for them. My letter of recommendation makes no specific reference to a parent being a partner there but the topic that I would like to write my personal statement about will make it obvious. Unsure of what to do. Advice? Thanks

it doesn't look bad but you don't want to do it just because of this person's stature in the field. if the lawyer doesn't know you well and can't talk about how you specifically will contribute to law school, i'd suggest using someone else. you want someone who knows you better rather than someone who has a powerful position.
