Does it have to be a BS or MA? What about Math BA? And does it really matter, especially when one has a below-median GPA?

For law school to have special consideration for a below-median GPA?

For admission to law school? Won't matter enough to make up for a low GPA either way. School rankings depend on the median GPA of admitted students, and there's no special exception given for GPAs in STEM subjects.

Certain majors will qualify you to take the patent bar and/or make you more attractive to IP employers, but that depends on more than just whether someone's degree is a BS or BA (although a BS, generally speaking, is probably more likely to qualify).
