It's probably more about getting a complete picture of your educational/work history than it is about C&F. (Also maybe wondering if you're you going to have any problems completing law school in 3 years?)

In addition to the above, it's a bit of an anomaly. Most people complete their undergraduate education without any breaks, so an admissions officer will probably be interested in knowing why you didn't.
It's not that they'll judge you for wanting to hike the Appalachian Trail more than for taking time off after a death in the family. But they probably want to be reassured that you weren't in rehab or inpatient psych care.

I think it's because many disciplinary issues result in a settlement in which a student agrees to take time off until xyz date. They wouldn't have to be disclose it if the question was limited to a suspension.
