Top Law Schools

I recently signed up for a Vanderbilt interview with an admissions officer in my city. Any advice on what to wear or what questions I should be expecting? Everyone I know has done their interview with an alum, so not sure what to expect.

Dress business casual. Have questions about the school. Be prepared to talk about why you're interested in the law. Ask the interviewer questions about what they do.

Pretty standard interview stuff...

I had an interview with and adcom. Why law, why Vandy, what I do outside work/school, questions about my resume, do I know what area of law I want to practice in. I was also given a chance to add anything that isn't said about me in my app. I'm still confused by that one. At the moment I didn't realize it might be time for an elevator pitch ??? or maybe it wasn't idk

I have my interview this Wednesday and plan on dressing business casual. I have some questions prepared about vandy and my interviewer.

I really only got asked why law. It was very much the interviewer singing the praises of Vandy. I would have a few more questions about the school ready then you might for other interviews. I asked most of the questions during mine, and it would have been awkwardly short if I didn't have some extras in my back pocket.

When do they typically let you know about the interview? I signed up for one a couple of weeks ago and still haven't heard anything....

If it was over two weeks ago, I'd contact the school.

I signed up for the interview. Checked about two days later on the Vanderbilt interview site and saw that I was assigned an interviewer. I emailed her and she responded that day to schedule the interview.

I'm a new alumni interviewer (haven't done my first one yet), and I'm not sure if I even see your LSAT score. I'll have to check. Either way, you're only really being evaluated on stuff outside your resume, i.e., does this person seem like a total jerk, would I have wanted this person to be in my class, etc. So there's not really a point in waiting.

Oh rc fail my bad. I guess I thought you were waiting to submit for an interview until you had a new lsat score or something. Coffee hasn't set in quite yet, I guess.

But I still don't think your interviewer sees your LSAT, if anyone was interested in that question.

Yes an interviewee should bring a resume just in case their interviewer forgets it.

Maybe if you're already bringing a padfolio or something. Otherwise I don't see a point. I suppose it can't hurt, though.

Also, I read on the Vandy page something about an applicant submitting writing samples beforehand -- what the what? Is this common? Is it impressive/necessary?

Lastly, I'm guessing I should be using the resume I will be submitting with my application, right? If anything changes on there between the time I interview and submit, do I need to make some kind of note of it somewhere?

Interviewer here. If your interviewer doesn't say otherwise, I'd go more on the formal side.

I've never heard of writing samples being submitted.

Different resume is fine. No need to tell anyone.

I submitted my resume online like we were asked, brought two extra copies with me, but my interviewer had mine printed with notes written on it. No specific dress was requested from me, but it was in a coffee shop, I wore khaki pants and a button down shirt tucked in with a brown belt and brown loafers. Neatly trimmed facial hair and hair well groomed. Basically just try and look presentable and definitely use the location to help dictate your dress. If I was meeting my interviewer at her place of work - DA Office - I probably would've gone more formal with a coat.
