Specifics on reapplying?

So I've been thinking about reapplying for fall 2017, despite having accepted and deferred NYU. I think I might be able to get more money or maybe even some more competitive offers from other T-6 schools. But I'm not really sure how the reapplying process works. Do I use the same letters of recommendation, personal statement, and just adjust my resume to include what I'll be doing during my year of deferral? Or do I need whole new letters of recommendation and a new personal statement? I couldn't find a thread about this, so if one exists please let me know, or if anyone has reapplied would love to get some input!

Is the NYU deferral non-binding? Most seem to be binding.

It's binding, so I would have to withdraw my deferral and apply again

What will have changed on your application to get you better results this cycle?

A year of working abroad and hopefully a higher LSAT

I dunno... a "hopefully" higher LSAT (the only one of those two things that will have any measurable effect on your cycle) isn't something I'd be willing to bet on if your score was already high enough to get NYU, etc. I also don't know how admissions departments take it when you withdraw from a deferral situation, but my gut feeling is that it could have negative effects.

What are your current numbers?

To tackle your original question - I have talked with a few adcoms (including T20, but just outside of T14) and was told that when reapplying, you should have a fresh personal statement and LSAT (if possible). Things need to be changed to make your application fresh and more attractive then before. Simply resubmitting the same application is a no-go.

In the Q&A w/ Spivey I was told the same LORs are fine as long as they are not super old, or if the school asks for new ones. For instance, if you are out of school, a professor probably isn't going to change their perception of you, especially after not having seen you in a while. The older and more "fresh" letter may be a better reflection of you than a newer letter.

The adcomms who post here have regularly said that a re-applicant should use a new PS.
