*If you're one of the people that lurks on here and reddit (like me), this is a repost from something I put on reddit so sorry for repetitiveness*

So I will be applying this cycle (assuming all goes according to plan) and graduated this May. I know a lot of ppl talk about employment but what should I be doing with my gap year? Is volunteering at a firm or something law-related recommended? Can it just be any employment? I obviously would just get something that would allow me to only be there a year (probably waitressing or bartending because I, oddly enough, generally like it and it's good money).

I originally wanted to see if I could become involved with an Innocence Project office but unfortunately there aren't any where I'll be (Wyoming).

Any recommendations?

He is probably suggesting that you take that year and time to study for and retake the LSAT, with the hopes that your score goes up.

I'm not sure he knew the specific dates and plans you had in mind, which is probably why he asked a question.

Well, since you seem fairly settled on the LSAT question: what do you want to do with your time?

I assure you, there is no right answer for this question. Volunteer, travel the world, work at Best Buy. Pick something you want to do and do it.

Literally the only thing you can do to improve your law school chances is focus on preparing for your LSAT retake. Pretty much everything else on your application is set in stone now, so that should be your main concern.

Yeah I just don't think December LSAT would be smart for me considering that I probably won't to apply earlier in the cycle to counteract my lower GPA.

And I was mostly worried about if there's anything I SHOULDNT do, not about what to do to make my application look better. For instance, I've seen mixed opinions on whether or not law schools don't like when the students have been pre-exposed to law.

Get your LSAT up and only a few schools will care what you did after your BS/BA.

What's your beef with Wyoming? Have you seen the climbing there? Seriously. Wyoming is like Colorado, but not full of Denver.

Lol, I'm a city person and also not very outdoorsy. Also not a huge fan of winters there.

Well, my interests are psychology and/or law. Neither of those are really "entry-level." And financial reasons basically.

Well, there's working as a paralegal or office assistant in law, and I'm not sure what aspect of psychology interests you, but there are entry level admin jobs at social services agencies, etc. You may have to think .05mm outside the box.....

How much would one extra year of work experience matter in applications? I've worked for a year now and hate my job but the paycheck is pretty good. Contemplating quitting to study for the LSAT and then moving to a cool city to enjoy myself before law school/just stay in cool city and bartend for the rest of my life.

I'm aware I could do paralegalism or office assistant, that's why I asked how law schools view working in law before going to law school. Regarding social services, I don't think so. I understand they do important work but I also feel weird about some of it at times so it's never been on my list of interests. My primary interests are mood disorders and African-American psychology.

This is of course anecdotal, but the number 1 student at my law school was a paralegal for several months before 1L began. This person crushed every doctrinal class. You might consider a similar path.
