Do I need a new laptop?

I have a 2012 macbook pro that I used in UG that still works fine for word, internet, etc. Do I need to buy a new laptop for law school? Is there anything I would be using the computer for that I would need a better/newer model? Thanks

If it still works perfectly fine, why would you want to get a new one? If you do though and will stick with Apple, wait for skylake processors on the Macbooks to be released.

I agree with above poster, if it's not getting bogged down yet I would probably stick with it myself.

I would definitely back up your data though. Hard drives only last so long, so it'd be good to think ahead and make sure you're not going to lose your data mid-semester if something kicks.

I got my MacBook Pro in 2011 for undergrad and its been great but it is slowing down a bit. I wasn't going to get a new one but grandparents offered so I couldn't turn it down! The new MacBooks are going to come out soon too and they're supposed to be better if you can wait.

Basically, if someone's willing to throw you 1,500 bucks do it, but if you're footing the bill back up your hard drive and ride that fucker into the dirt!

For what it's worth, I have three macbooks: a 2006, a 2008, and a 2014 Pro. All of them still function fine but usually around the six year mark is when they start to noticeably bog down, hence why I upgraded from the '08 in 2014.
