Where are you going to school? If you go in-state that might be enough.

California as a market (keep in mind it's a whole state) is competitive in the sense that there are a relatively large number of applicants for the biglaw positions available compared to NYC.

Some employers care about ties and some don't. A lot of californians assume that everyone wants to live here so a lot of firms don't care if you have them.

Going to (HY)S, or B will be the biggest boost for your chances at landing a job in CA as a large number of CA employers attend OCI at these schools looking to hire grads from these schools. Otherwise, you're relying on whoever shows up at your OCI plus mass mail.
