Here is my situation. I am currently working to finish my dissertation over the summer. I plan to complete everything in time to graduate during the summer session, but I also like planning for contingencies.

So, if I don't finish it in time for summer graduation (but still get everything done before the fall semester begins), can I take a credit of "Continuing Registration" at my old school to graduate in December, while being a 1L at a different school?

The best answer is just to call your school and ask. Someone here might know ABA requirements which is what the policy will be pegged to loosely, but your situation seems way too specific.

Also PHD and then JD? Someone really likes school.

It's very common to still be working on a Ph.D while starting law school, so I'm sure most law schools deal with this every year.
