I know i can pretty much find out answers to my law school questions by checking online, but I'm looking to build rapport with him. So what can exactly can i ask him to start building some sort of relationship? Also I wanted to know exactly what resources prelaw advisors offer to students besides advice? Do they actually have influence over your admission?

To answer your three questions in order: (1) ask for advice; (2) nothing; and (3) no.

Oh god no. Avoid pre-law advisors. They are so out of touch. TLS is all you need.

Mine was useful. He could look over my Letter of Recs and tell me which were the best ones to submit. He noticed a typo in one and had the professor correct it.

Other than that.... nothing.

Mine was less than useless and gave bad advice. Though she did proof read my personal statement which was helpful

Pre-law advisors are worthless. Or at least mine was. There are plenty of TLSers that are much better off answering your questions and looking over components of your application.

Went through the entire admissions process w/o the pre-law adviser and am very happy with my results. The information here is much more useful, IMO.

I would use the time you're thinking about using to build a relationship with your pre-law advisor and instead concentrate on the professors you are going to have write reccs. They are the ones who have some influence in your application process. They are also often willing to read your PS or other application components. If you have a competent advisor you might be able to get some useful nuggets of advice or review, but TLS can easily substitute for these.

The thing to remember about pre law advisors is they they almost always want to grow up to be law school admissions people. And that typically means going to a TTT or TTTT. Thus, they will very rarely give you an accurate portrayal about life at these institutions because it's in their best personal interest not to.

So the logic is that schools are motivated to deflate post-grad unemployment numbers -> effort to increase employment/decrease eligible pool -> increase postgrad admissions -> hiring a prelaw advisor -> incentivized to push for TT/TTT/TTTT KJD admissions rather than retake?

I buy that.
