Top Law Schools

I am about to graduate from a well-ranked LAC, but not among the top 3. GPA is 3.78 and will likely be 3.8 by graduation. LSAT is 164. I know. That, combined with applying relatively late in the cycle, has left me admitted to a few schools in the 30-40 range with $$, and bottom of the T1 with $$$. I did not give the LSAT much prep, and I am torn about what to do. Social pressure says I should take what I have and go to one of my current options. But I have this feeling that I will always ask, "What if?" about going to a law school that would provide me with more options for clerking, biglaw, etc. Am I right to think this way? Should I just suck it up and try to transfer? I'm deeply confused, not to mention concerned, about whether lower ranked schools can yield successful results in these areas.

Literally every single person on here is going to tell you to retake and reapply. You have a good GPA. Bring that LSAT up to 170 and you'll be in much better shape.

You can't go to law school without seriously studying for the LSAT. Lots of us have sat out an extra year in order to give the LSAT a serious take after taking it on a whim the first time. I assure you it's worth it.

Social pressure comes from folks who have a romanticized view of practicing law that was probably crystallized by watching too much LA Law, if they are older, and lord knows what if they are younger. You, thankfully, can benefit from actual knowledge of what the situation is like and retake the LSAT so that you actually end up at a school that you can get a job from at reasonable cost. When you get pushback from those folks, ask them if they would rather you take this time to maximize your options or end up unemployed with hundreds of thousands of dollars of undischargeable debt. You don't have that far to go...a 170 at least should be attainable for you.

Do not attend any school with the intention of transferring. it can be an option, but not your plan. You are the embodiment of people who should retake.
