Hey Y'all!

I may have a really dumb question here, but am curious about wait-lists when you have committed to a law school. How does this work? There are many stories of people getting off a wait-list at X school, after they committed and deposited at a different school. Theoretical example: someone who gets off Yale's wait-list in June when they already committed and deposited to NYU. I thought a condition of matriculating to most law schools is agreeing to withdraw all other applications. Again, this may be a dumb question, but how does this process work?

You can deposit at one school and ride out the waitlist at a better school down to like the day of registration/orientation. This is probably a general rule, so check with specific schools and their rules.

You can stay on waitlist, I even used an offer from a WL to up scholarship at a school I had deposited at already.

You have to withdraw from all other schools you were accepted to, but in general you can feel free to ride waitlists throughout the summer. (Some schools have more specific requirements about how many waitlists you can be on.) Just be prepared to lose your seat deposit $$ if you get in off the waitlist somewhere and decide to go there instead!
