Top Law Schools

Hello everyone!

First off, thanks for reading this post and responding. I was wondering what my chances are at any one of these four schools: UVA, Michigan, Berkeley, Cornell.

My GPA is 3.97 with a double major in Poli Sci and Philosophy and minor in Classic and Ancient Mediterranean History. Unfortunately, I was only able to score 165 on my LSAT. I took it in October and again in December to try and get a couple extra points, but I scored the same. (one of the logic games kicked my butt) I couldn't seem to break that 165 mark. I recently applied to Berkeley and Michigan. (For Michigan I responded to their Essay 3 on the optional addendum on why my lower LSAT score was not an accurate reflection of my potential to succeed at a school like Michigan)

I would also love to go to the University of Virginia. I definitely have a more public policy/political interest for my future career. However, would I be better suited trying the Early Decision process at UVA or take the riskier route and apply for regular admissions?

Keep in mind, these percentages are based on a very limited sample and are not totally accurate. It's just based on the other few people on the internet who had similar numbers and logged their outcomes.

I usually lean towards recommending regular admission, as you essentially give up any and all bargaining power for scholarships when you apply ED. But, I'm definitely not an expert. I'd be interested to see what other people say.

You definitely want to submit your apps soon. Don't wait until the day before the deadline.

I have very similar numbers as you; your numbers are a littleeee better than mine. I put 10/11 of my apps in by November 23.
So far:
Accepted- Upenn, Berkeley, UCLA, USC, Tulane
Waitlisted- Duke, Georgetown (put on "hold')

Pending- Cornell, UVA, Michigan, Chicago (asked to interview)

Also, I decided to ED Duke and still was waitlisted!

Don't listen to the bozo above. Don't ED. You'll get into at least one (and probably all three) of Michigan, Georgetown, and Cornell. So far I've been 4/4 with white, 3.9+/sub-161 friends at Georgetown (2 RD and 2 off of the waitlist), and 1/1 with a 3.8X/164 friend at Cornell. There's literally no need to ED unless you want to guarantee yourself zero scholly money

I wouldn't ED either. I don't think your chances of having scholarship money are that great though.

NO LAW SCHOOL is worth sticker price these days, including Yale. if your only options were to go to Yale at sticker or not going to law school at all, I'd advise the latter.

My advice is moot if you have multi-millionaire parents who are paying, but I assume you don't.

Disagreed. I'd do sticker for a T-14, then having to attend a T-25 for free.

Not everyone has the same goals that justify sticker at lower T14 over a free T25.

If OP is interested in public policy, it's worth noting that the T14 schools offer LRAP, which many of the T25 do not.
