170 LSAT 3.7 GPA- December LSAT too late?

Post by canahaic » Sun Nov 15, 2015 10:14 pm

I will be taking the LSAT for the first time in December. I'm generally PTing in the low 170s and improving steadily in my weakest area (LGs), so I think I'll at least get a 170. I have a 3.78 GPA.

I'm not looking to get into a t14. Do I have a shot at getting any decent money this cycle or should I wait and apply next year. I would really prefer not to wait, but obviously I will if it means I'd get more money. Is it worth applying this cycle?

You won't know until you actually get your score back, but I got decent money last year with the Feb. LSAT.

Notre Dame, BU, and Fordham are places I'm thinking about now.

Whoa there. You will certainly have better options. Aim higher

yeah, aim way way higher

like CCN and lower at the very least (meaning I wouldn't necessarily apply to HYS although it couldn't hurt)

Yeah, I mean hit a 172 and you're looking at full rides in the T14.

You're fine to write in december. I wrote in December with numbers slightly better than yours and got offered full-rides to all of CCN. If you have a 170/3.7 after the December test I imagine you'll at least get in everywhere except HYS.

December shouldn't be late with your numbers, but test day can throw you through a loop (drop in actual score v. pt scores) but if you hold out at 170+ you should be in a good place. I'm not going to talk you into T14 applications. Just do what you want. Good luck!

(also if you're trying for the catholic schools, you're thinking of BC)

When you say 'write in December', do you mean that you submitted with a previous score but indicated you were retaking in Dec? And they accepted you before receiving your Dec score?

Pretty sure it's the British version of "I took the test in December"

Ahhh ok. I watch enough BBC that I really should have known that.

I'm Canadian, for whatever that's worth! I get shit on the 'write' / 'take' dichotomy all the time since I've moved stateside, but I can't seem to drop it. At least I learned to say bathroom instead of washroom.

Not the case, in absence of some truly great softs. I had those exact numbers, and also took the December test. I still got a great offer from a T14, but didn't get into all non-HYS schools.

Hm, interesting. Do you think an October or June test with an earlier application would have made a difference?

Had a (close) English friend in elementary school so that's my main exposure. Surprisingly enough I wasn't around or in classes with many of the internationals during UG. Did have one British girl in a class that I specifically remember. "Write" was her preferred verbiage for exams.
