Top Law Schools

Hey TLS, I need a reality check. If anyone has the time some perspective on my chances would be great.

Basically, I'm the poster child of not quite living up to potential. Grew up upper-middle class, white, went to good schools and did extracurriculars. Combination of personal faults and long term family issues drew my GPA down, and I went to two state schools and a community college before getting my BA in Poli Sci. Even harder f*ck up (hence the username), had kind of a breakdown in the spring semester of my third year, but pulled it out in the last year with 4.0s to barely clear a 3.0 cum GPA. I sat in October and got a 167, if I would have gotten what I PTd on LG I couldve gotten a 175. Working towards a December retake and hopeful 175+.

What are my options? I want to go to Georgetown or UCLA but I don't think it's in the cards for me. Just looking to go to the best school I can, work hard and go into Public International Law or M&A, Biglaw basically. Don't hold back, I know I don't deserve any sympathy.

5 out of 5 got into UCLA,which is good news. 2 of them got scholarships too.
Georgetown is 3 out of 5, 2 wait-listed, so not a deal breaker.

Personally I think since you can pull out with a 4.0 means you are actually smart, and if you can get a 175 means you can study hard.

Big law rate for UCLA is 36%, Georgetown is 45%. (According to Law school Transparency)

So if you get in, and stay in top 30% (Maybe 20% for UCLA), you have a fairly good shot to the jobs you want.

People make mistakes, most of them end up ok, so dont worry too much about it.

You can always retake certain classes or additional classes at a local junior college

or even online to boost your GPA. Continue to practice for the LSAT and with a

higher score, you may have an even better chance to be admitted with potentially a

scholarship. If you feel you would like to explain your past further you can always

include that in an addendum or in the supplemental application if you believe an

event affected your studies and you would like to explain.

This is incorrect if OP has graduated. Post grad credits will not be factored into your LSAC GPA.

ETA: Quit self-flagellating, OP. Study harder and get a better LSAT score and you'll have good options. You'll need to be positive next year, because this shit gets hard.

24 admits out of 117 applicants with 165-169 and 3.0-3.24.
4 of 7 with 175+ and 3.0-3.24.

But I'm more of the "chillax" camp on this one. Even now, you'll get into several really good schools. Scholarships are really the wild card, but even then, whether or not you get BigLaw (if that even stays your goal after being in law school) will be up to you.
