Answer whatever's asked for. If something asks for convictions, you don't have one. If something asks for charges, you explain that you were charged but the GJ failed to return an indictment and the case was dismissed. There's no obligation in the latter case to actually admit anything - legally, you didn't do anything.

It's theoretically possible that for C&F (pretty unlikely for admissions) you might get asked if you've ever *done* anything that would reflect on your fitness as a lawyer (or something more specific like if you were ever untrustworthy with someone's funds). But generally you're going to get asked about stuff that leaves a paper trail.

Depends on the application question. If school A asks you if you've ever been convicted of a crime, you can, and should say no. If school B asks if you've ever been charged or arrested for a crime, you should say yes and write an addendum simply stating "I was arrested on allegations of X. I was investigated by a grand jury, which no-billed the case for lack of evidence. Accordingly, this arrest has been expunged from my criminal record. It has been Y years since this event."

i think you're underestimating how identifiable your situation is even if you have fudged the details considerably

While you are at it make sure to delete the title "re: xxx y.y" in your follow-up post on the thread you posted about your chances.

Right now everyone can see your numbers, and the schools you are targeting. That information alone is probably enough for a school to identify you.

Guess just change it to "asking for a friend" would be fine? Then it won't be used as evidence against you.
