Are GPA Addendum's Helpful?

LSAT: 170
GPA: 3.2
Been out of undergrad for two years.
Hi guys, I know this question has been addressed quite a bit on these fora, but I'm having a hard time finding a definitive answer and wondering what the verdict is on GPA addendum's. I have a strong upward trend my final two years of undergrad (Dean's List or President's List each quarter) ending with an LSAC GPA of 3.2. I don't have a great reason for it: essentially a combination of being a D1 athlete, having to travel an hour multiple times a week to take care of my sick mother, poor with time management, and above all else being uninterested in what I was studying.
Any way I can write this in an explanatory way that doesn't come across as making excuses? I know it might not help to write one, but would it hurt? Thanks in advance.
