Yeah, but I've always thought of that as a temporary deal. Won't he still have to disclose to the bar and then explain why he didn't disclose in apps?

Could make for a great PS. Certainly should serve as a motivating factor to attend law school. Whether or not it will affect your law school admissions chances depends upon the facts & circumstances of this matter & how they are presented. The impact could be positive or negative.

Maybe it will have to be disclosed for the bar (it will depend on the state), but the bar is not going to ding you for not providing information the law school app didn't ask for. If the bar wants the info and looks at the app, they will see that the OP wasn't required to disclose, so no discrepancy.

Some states (like California) only ask for convictions on their Bar application. I spoke with adcomms at a few T14 schools and they all said to just answer the question as phrased. The Bar in your state isn't going to think you're dishonest for leaving out part of your past that isn't asked for in the c&f question.
