Personal Hardship

After applying to a few local schools, I learned that my mom has cancer. Since I would like to stay in the area to help her/spend potentially her last days with her, should I consider sending a supplemental letter to local schools stating a personal hardship? Is that an acceptable/correct thing to do?

I think that would definitely be necessary information.

Sorry about your mom. :(

Yes, you may send a personal letter or call the admissions department asking what the protocol is for a personal hardship situation. You do have time to decide if you would like to defer an acceptance, put the application on hold, or continue through the process and be enrolled as a part time student as opposed to full time, if the program offers one.

Apologies for your hardship. We will be thinking of you and best of luck with all your future endeavors. If you are lucky enough to live someplace with amazing weather, I hope you are able to enjoy the day.
