Not Indian but I have a foreign transcript with a somewhat exotic grading system so maybe I can shed some light on the process. LSAC researched the institution (they cite sources used) and assigned me the classification based on that information. In my case, they used the AACRAO EDGE national profile as well as information from the Ministry of Education. I don't know how they'd evaluate your grades exactly but they won't just eyeball your 63% and score you intuitively. Furthermore, it is contestable; if they give you the wrong evaluation, you can challenge it with documentation.

If you get your 170+ LSAT, you'll be fine since you'll largely be treated as an applicant without a GPA. Based on my limited observations, the exception is at HYS where a mediocre evaluation will be a hurdle.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! What you said is in agreement with what I have been hearing. I suppose LSAT score is all that matters.
