UMN has less need for a national reputation than schools like UWash and Vandy that are in states with no legal market. UMN grads can easily get biglaw jobs in Minneapolis starting at 120k, whereas those other schools have to send people to the coasts, which should make them less attractive because you are competing with grads from Penn, Harvard, Berkeley, etc whereas UMN dominates its own niche biglaw market.
This is not supported by any data. Only like 10 to 15% of each graduating class gets Biglaw jobs out of Minnesota. Which would be fine, if it didn't cost so damn much. It's the epitome of mediocrity.
Michigan is the epitome of mediocrity. Minnesota is straight-up bad.

15.8% biglaw plus 20.4% in judicial clerkships which should lead to biglaw if the person chooses.

Biglaw jobs in the twin cities are at sweatshop firms.

This is true. I admit I ran to UMN's defense without looking closely at the data . My real objection was that 110-120k average starting salary in the private sector was somehow considered mediocre. Factoring in cost of living would make those numbers even higher.

I would argue that biglaw placement alone isn't the only factor in assessing mediocrity.

Yeah, we forgot to mention the $48k per year in tuition.

Now I think we're good.

This is news to 85% of Minnesota grads.
^this. Tell my UMN law grad friends in solo practices or unemployed how easy it was for them to get one of the couple dozen large firm positions across the state (for which they in fact are competing with Michigan, Harvard, and Northwestern grads).

No medians--but a friend at an admissions fair was given the following info from ASU rep:

Entering class
225 (apparently they have 8 "advanced standing" JDs)
GPA: 3.38 (+.01)/??/3.80 (+0.02)
LSAT: 158 (+1)/??/163 (0)

This was "as of" orientation they told him.
The "Advanced Standing" JDs are international students. Like those attending law school in Mexico or South America etc.
