So how do i politely decline the offer of admission at one school after submitting both seat deposits because my first choice admitted me from the waitlist? I'm not concerned about getting the seat deposit back, i just don't know whether to tell them thanks but no thanks bc i was admitted to another school or just decline without giving a reason.

Thank you.

Thanks but no thanks sounds good. You probably don't have to say anything but being polite wouldn't hurt.

In my opinion, the better option is to let the school know that you have been accepted to your first choice law school from the waitlist. As a bonus, this may generate a scholarship offer from the school at which you have deposited.

Just tell them your plans have changed and you would like to withdraw your application. It's a very short and polite email.

Could this happen for a transfer? Or does no one love us enough to care that we turned them down?

I've wondered this as well. I'd assume if its within their budget and you have been performing well, they may make an offer.

This is really all it takes. Not a big deal. The most important thing is that you tell them as soon as you can. I can't tell you how annoying and unprofessional it is when I can't get students to return emails and phone calls after multiple attempts to contact them to find out if they are still planning on attending. (No surprise that most of the sanctions listed in the back of any state bar magazine include "failure to communicate with client".)
