In dollar amounts, how much do you value the time/effort/stress/money associated with a re-take?
Figure each point is worth an additional 10k in scholarship. If the total value you assign to those considerations above is less than 10k, than a re-take is not worth it. However, if it is more, it is worth it. This calculation btw assumes you actually go up. The chances of you going up from a 173 are slim since you're already approaching a ceiling of scoring.

You have a good shot but it's just a matter of how much scholarship do you want. It certainly wouldn't hurt you to try.

Depends where you were PTing. If you were banging out 178-180s then hell yeah, go for it.
If 173 was right around what you were averaging, and you think you thoroughly prepared yourself for the test, then congrats, you did exactly what you were supposed to do.

I averaged 174 for the most part, but towards the end I was getting higher scores pretty consistently. I know a retake is by no means a guarantee to score higher, but I believe I would have a good chance of at least 175 on retake. I just don't know how much that really affects scholarships when you are already below the 25% gpa and above the 75% LSAT? And am I correct that NYU or Columbia are already good shots? Because If I needed a higher LSAT to feel good on getting into those I would retake.
Well you seem to have cls/nyu blinders on, which might not be very wise for someone with a 3.5. You probably won't get more than $10k/yr from either. Your likelihood of admission is pretty good tho, if that's what you want to hear.

If you think you can do better there is no downside to taking it again (besides the time spent studying/sitting). I'd go for it. I think you are already likely to get some solid t14 $$ offers though.

Score increase: 31
Score decrease: 18
No change: 3

Probably not any downside as long as you don't walk in cold and fire off like a 160, but it also isn't likely to make a big difference in admissions even if you go up a few points. The yield protectors in the T-14 get more suspicious that you'll go CLS/NYU the higher the LSAT, so just be ready for that.
