I will be spending about 2k to visit, but it will be later to set up apartments etc. I honestly cannot see myself justifying it just to help me make a choice - if you had planned a little further ahead and strung some travelling stipends together would be very different.

I've decided to go with Duke and save my 2K for tuition. Thanks all for the input.

The weather in SE Michigan is abysmal. We just had (light) snow the past two days!
