Wait List Fever

Hi Team,

So, I am still waiting on a few schools but I have had a recent case of what I can only describe as "Wait List Fever". I don't have a specific question per se; this post is the equivalent of showing a group of friends a rash and asking if they think it is normal. So here it goes.

166/3.5/URM/Triple major-double minor/Employed at a prestigious company:

Columbia- Held
Chicago- Wait-listed
Penn- Wait-listed
Berkeley- Accepted
Virginia- Wait-listed
Duke- Wait-listed
Michigan- Wait-listed
Northwestern- Accepted

I have not been rejected anywhere (yet) but seem to be doomed to the wait list. I am wondering if you guys would chalk this up to my numbers simply not being strong enough, or does it appear that there is something about my application that is turning people off (but not enough to flat out reject me)?

Also, how many people out there are having a similar experience?

Live Long and Prosper,

C.

I'm not an authority on this by any means, but IMO, it's likely the numbers. Your softs seem strong from what you've divulged.

ETA: I don't know how URM status influences the impact of your numbers. I suppose it depends on the type of URM you are. Honestly, though, your soft factors are pretty incredible, so they aren't the problem. Good luck!

You're below both medians everywhere, so that might be something lol...

What kind of URM are you?

I am one of those crafty Puerto Rican's.

I am aware my numbers do not exactly set the world on fire. If I was rejected at all these places I wouldn't be confused. My wonderment stems from being wait-listed nearly everywhere I have applied. If that is to be expected though given my numbers, then that is good to know.

Thanks for the responses, they are appreciated!

Yeah I think your numbers(plus not being an AA URM) are just borderline so that's why you're seeing some acceptances and a lot of waitlists, but you've gotten into two great schools so far so not too bad
