Top Law Schools

Hi everyone, I've been lurking for a few months and finally decided to post on here! It seems like a lot of people suggest taking a break after UG to gain work experience and whatnot. Anyways, I took three years off after HS (working crappy jobs) and then went to JC and recently transferred to a 4-year (I'm now a junior). I'm prepping for the LSAT now and planning on taking the real thing in September or October. Do y'all think the adcomms would view me as a K-JD? Should I wait to apply until after graduation? Just curious as to what everyone thinks.

By definition, you're not a k-jd.
See what employment opportunities arise. Apply when you have the stats you need to both get accepted and get a huge scholarship from a school that makes it likely you'll achieve your career goals. Really focus on getting a high GPA and a high LSAT score. Those two numbers are by far the most important factors to adcoms.

Yeah I'll second that motion. If you have the numbers to get into the school you want at a price you want, go straight through. If you don't have the LSAT you want/need in the bag at that time, then wait. I think that pretty much sums it up.

Awesome. Thanks for the reply. I have a 3.8 right now and I'm trying to make sure that doesnt drop. My plan is to only go to LS if I can hit 170+

Something else I'm wondering is if there's a min unit requirement to apply?

What are your career goals?

ETA: Don't know about a minimum unit requirement, but I'd guess that the only important min would be what you need for your degree?

You need to graduate undergrad before law school matriculation, but I doubt there's a minimum credit requirement. Most people apply with ~90 credits if they apply in the fall and ~105 if they apply after the winter holidays.

shockingly, one of them (that i know of, there may be more) is aba accredited

@Big Red, I'm going to be targeting biglaw. I think it's going to take awhile for me to figure out what I want to do in the long-term. I can't afford LS so I'm hoping to get $ somewhere. As of right now, I'm assuming I'll be in a lot of debt if I go to a T14 school.

@Dirigo, thanks again! I only ask because I'm working with like the least amount of units possible. I'll def be able to graduate before I ever matriculate to LS though.

Well all let you apply without a bachelors, but some schools let you actually matriculate and attend without first completing undergrad (in situations other than 3/3 joint BA/JD programs)? Weird. I forgot about the toilets.

no bachelors requirement for MI state bar

Well I mean in CA you don't actually need a JD to sit for the bar either, because of the whole apprenticeship business.
