I would write a very short addendum. I think it would be better not to leave them wondering here, especially since you clearly had a good reason to take that time off.

It sounds like a positive event. You left school for a worthwhile family matter, and when you returned you got back onto track. Commendable actions. I have gaps because of military service, I wouldn't hide it. I am proud of the struggles I went through to finish my degrees. If your proud of your actions, highlight what you learned from it.

Most of the apps I have done only have 200 or so for the response on the gap in school, but I don't recall any not asking if I had a gap.
