What are your goals? Right now, you're looking at lower T14 money. If you want T6 money, retake for a 173+ and live it up.
Depends what you're thinking for law school.

if you wait until Feb youll get waitlisted a lot of places because classes will be full by then (esp at smaller schools like Chicago). I'd say take a year off so you're not a KJD

If you're KJD, I say take the year off. You'd be giving yourself a better chance of performing your best on the LSAT and you won't risk not getting in to schools that you otherwise would if you applied too late in the cycle. You could always get a part time job while you're studying and then find something full time for the rest of the year.

Re: Apply, Retake, or Apply AND Retake
I would suggest apply and retake in Feb.
And if you are not happy with the number you get from the Feb exam, consider retaking for possible extra money in June.
In the mean time take a look at the spivey blog post on retakes.

Re: Apply, Retake, or Apply AND Retake
I think that you have the right idea.
I see little harm in applying and seeing what happens, perhaps if your Feb score improves you can be looking and improved offers. If you do not like what you have on the table, you are not forced to go just because you have an offer.
