Just curious ..could anyone share their general thoughts on hiring an admissions consultant to advise on law school apps?

Thanks in advance.

...I would not.

I had one briefly in high school and that was just not a good experience. Too focused on creating a kaleidoscope-like application to make me "unique." That person was a law school admissions consultant as well, and had the same strategy. It didn't appeal to me.

They don't do anything that you can't get for free from TLS.

I think if your numbers are borderline for a target school or you have a unique situation and it's affordable, it can make sense to get admissions help. But in the majority of cases there is plenty of information on TLS.

Most Admissions Consultants can't truly be of value to a majority of applicants. A lot of great advice can be given on TLS or here. I wouldn't.

Unique situations that can't be answered well here (due to uniqueness or outing) can benefit from it. That's my situation at the moment; even if they only serve primarily as a validator for what you already think you know they can be helpful. I've been quite pleased with my decision to hire one.

If you have unusual circumstances and you're aiming for HYS+B, the Spivey people seem okay.

unless you have a criminal record OR poor financial records OR disciplinary school records OR have been fired from a job due to incompetency, dishonesty, fraudulent behavior, OR you're wealthy, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.
