Yes. It makes no difference to their US News ranking, but schools still care. There are a limited amount of 180s out there and schools like to nab them.Pau.C. wrote:Would a 180 applicant have any advantage over a 177 applicant?
That having been said, YS have more holistic and selective admission policies than other schools. A 180 and a good GPA sometimes aren't enough.

Things can get pretty nuts. Perfect GPA + Perfect LSAT = 93, 100 and 77 percent chance of admissions for YHS respective.whitespider wrote:Yes. Dropping it to 177, however, we get 65, 93, 78.
Dropping from 180 to 177 for Yale results in dropping 30 percentage points for admissions chances.

The sample size is so small, I wouldn't assume that kind of a difference= 30% less chance of admission.
I'm sure higher is always better but I wouldn't waste too much time contemplating in implications of just how high of your score is over a school's 75th. There are better ways to spend your Sunday afternoon.

Including going on TLS on a Sunday to tell people there are better ways to spend your time on a Sunday afternoon. (Sorry bro, couldn't resist).BigZuck wrote:The sample size is so small, I wouldn't assume that kind of a difference= 30% less chance of admission.

But yes. You are, of course, correct in a way. EVEN IF the sample size were perfect, all of this boils down to kind of fun but unproductive speculation. Everyone should shoot for a 180 and do everything possible to get a 180. But if you want to have some idea (even if imperfect) of how the scores affect your chances, then that is okay too as long as it does not become obsessive.

If u do please post the response here.Pau.C. wrote:Yeah, I understand. I am just finishing up apps now, so I really don't have a better way to spend my Sunday.
But I was just wondering in terms of seeing how I will be viewed in relation to other applicants. Honestly, I am just happy to be above the 75th for my top choice.
Maybe I'll drop this question in the Spivey thread and see what he says.

Just focus on your fantasy football teams guys. Or go outside. It looks beautiful out there.
You have the rest of your lives to be aspie strivers, you don't need to be doing that today.

Sort of joking. But super serious about the fact that you guys shouldn't be worried about what where your 176+s are going to get you. You did it. It's done. Now enjoy. If you don't get into Harvard and end up with a fully at some TTT14 like Dook (heaven forbid) it'll still be ok. Life's too short dudes.
And your fantasy football team needs some attention too.

Does it matter- no; can it marginally help your chances- probably. Don't sweat it, and for real don't even think about retaking 175+. A 180 is nice, but it won't guarantee you anything that you didn't already have coming compared to a 177 or whatever.
For schools with medians 170 or lower, having a stratospheric LSAT will be really advantageous for scholarship purposes.

I have to disagree. I will be the first to admit that Mylsn may have sample size issues. But come on, you cannot just discount it all together.Pneumonia wrote:Does it matter- no; can it marginally help your chances- probably.
