Law School Predictor is absolutely worthless

Let's be honest, when TLS recommends that someone plugs their numbers into that shitshow of an application we aren't doing anything but discouraging them. Wildly inaccurate doesn't even begin to describe it.
But maybe were just supposed to be "those people" so less students attend LS---> TLS profit.

Any and all of these applications are worthless for anything beyond a VERY casual prediction to be taken with a mountain of salt.
Telling potential applicants to use these services to gauge their standing is a tremendous disservice.

Helpful =\= Determinative
TLS prescribes it as the latter.

I think you are splitting hairs. It should absolutely be the first thing we show to people who ask what their chances are.
What exactly is your problem with it?

"Mylsn says 0/80 people with a 3.3 gpa get accepted to hls but I was Vice President of my sophomore class chance me"
But srsly it's very helpful. You see where you're a lock ( barring aspie ) and where you have no chance (barring being malala) and where your softs will be determinative. Also, scholly numbers.

Where you're a lock is self-evident. People use the service to gauge their chances at reach schools, and the apps don't come close.
Had I taken the apps results at face value I would have expected Cooley at sticker (Not really, but you get the point).

LSP is absurdly optimistic. It told me SLS and Chicago should be my target schools.
mylsn.info more or less told me exactly where I'd get in. I applied to every school where at least one person with my numbers had gotten in. I don't see waht the problem with it is.

You guys are regular TLSers. You get it. You can put these services in their proper context.
The random lurker / TLS noob probably won't.

MistakenGenius wrote:Both LSP and LSN are excellent applications with their own uses. I used them both and they helped me considerably and I am far from the only one. By using real cycles, they both can deliver accurate results. OP, just because your numbers are poor doesn't mean that the calculators are worthless.
You aren't very clever for a YLSer if you're seriously equating your "do I qualify for a Hamilton or Ruby" dilemma vs. the average applicant.

I thought so, and don't necessarily disagree with it. I'm all about barriers to entry and profit.
Sorry for being the turd in the punchbowl.

Not worthless, just has its limitations like everything else. Better for some number ranges than for others, and doesn't account for YP. But probably very accurate for most non-splitters.
