Thank You Emails

Random question.. Attended a law school panel this evening with representatives of a few different west coast schools. Each representative gave out their personal business cards. Would it be wise to send thank you e-mails to these reps? I did speak to a few of them post panel.

I've been taught to always send thank you's to guest speakers etc. and am curious as to what the guidelines/ regulations are for sending thank you's to the directors of admissions that attended.

I wouldn't bother. All they care about is LSAT and GPA.

Boalt Rep said 1/3 LSAT 1/3 GPA and 1/3 LOR/P.S.

I'm not usually a big thank you person, but in this situation I'd say that, if you actually had a substantial conversation with any of these folks after the panel, it couldn't hurt to shoot off an email to thank that person or persons for their time.

Ha. I know a Boalt adcomm. This is sort of true, but only in this way. Maybe 1/3 of applicants (probably much more) are auto-dinged because of their LSAT and GPA. Maybe another third (but probably much less) are auto-accept based on their numbers. Then for the middle third maybe the LOR/PS have some bearing on their application.

It won't make any difference but do it if you feel like it

lol very true.. I was more so worried if there were any regulations about emailing them.. Like if it was something that wasn't allowed type of thing.

After I went to a Law Forum, I sent a thank you email to every person I spoke with. They all responded back very nicely, and I do think keeping those lines of communication open are important. I know for some businesses, they keep the thank you letters and any other correspondence you send in your "potential employee" file and the people making decisions can view them / know that you sent one.

My advice in this situation would be to send an email to anyone you had meaningful conversation with and reference what you spoke about in the email.

If it is any consolation, I was planning on sending out thank you notes by mail this weekend to those schools I feel I had an exceptionally great convo with the deans. Good luck!

this is adcomm bullshit meant to increase app $ and decrease offer rate

it's the law school equivalent of those late night infomercials with evangelical faith healers
"we will heal you through the power of the almighty, just send us $100..."
so you send your $100 and when you don't get better you tell yourself you must have not prayed hard enough
of course, some people are cured, which allows the racket to continue

i've never heard of an adcomm telling an applicant not to apply to their school
"oh we're looking at the whole package, we want people with interesting backgrounds, a unique perspective, just send us $100..."

the only reason they say that is to drive up apps and "prove" that URM boosts are part of the total mix of factors (Lie) rather than the only soft factor that matters (Truth).

Not to hijack, but I received emails from some of the people that I interviewed with (alums, adcomms, etc). Is that standard? Do schools usually extend a thank you first? If so, which?

I dunno, WUSTL told me I had no shot because of my 3.5 GPA

you must have spoken to someone truly incompetent
WUSTL's median is only a 3.62 with a 25th percentile at 3.19
3.5 doesn't even hit splitter territory

Apparently the OP in this thread was told not to apply: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 4&t=237874

Wait what's the link for? Wasn't told not to apply.. Didn't give them my stats. This was just a response to the question "which do you weigh most heavily" that someone in the group asked.
