Do I need another LoR?

Hi all,

I am 3+ years out of undergrad. I currently have two letters written - one from an undergrad prof, one from an employer (both of which I know will be strong positive letters).

I have noticed there is quite a bit of information advocating for two academic letters so I am considering asking a grad school professor for a third letter since I'm really not comfortable asking another undergrad professor. My reservation is that while I'm sure it will at least be an average letter, I'm not sure that it will be as strong as my first two. Could a lukewarm third letter take away from 2 strong letters?

I asked the same question back in August. Only got one response, but it was a good one. Upshot is it's definitely better to have two academic recs than not, but it's not a dealbreaker necessarily not to have one (but that a so-so second letter is better than no second letter).

Why do you think your grad school recommender will only issue you an average recommendation? There are many things you can do to improve your recommender's ability to write you a strong recommendation, including providing him/her with your resume, draft personal statement, statement of what you learned/appreciated about his/her class and an explanation of why you want to attend law school.
