Welcome back, McNutty.patogordo wrote:Was Bubbles your CI code name?
flame...get a life.Bubbles1012 wrote:When I was in undergrad I worked briefly as an escort and oneday walked into a sting operation. Since I wasn't your average drug addled call girl the police and FBI who were involved in the sting decided to essentially let me off the hook if I promised to help them in future sting operations aimed at finding underage and trafficked girls. This was obviously a no brainier, and I agreed to help. All charges against me were dropped, on the disposition it say no lo proseque. I also have no record on the state level (just went into the state police today to check under my right to review), and no FBI record. There is, however, a police report I can have expunged as well as the court record that says no lo proseque. Now fast forward four years and I have moved on with my life and would like to apply to law schools. I got a 169 on my lsat and have a great GPA, an interesting work history, and a great personal statement. I would like to disclose the incident and know that the stigma sex workers often face won't be held against me since all charges were dropped and I don't even have an official arrest record but I know there's no guarantee of that. Additionally, the police report is just dripping with sexist language that makes me look really bad, like a whore in the worst sense and does not portray what the encounter was actually like. I know you should always err on the side of disclosing but this isn't marijuana or a dwi. I never lived in the small city I was cited in or in the city's county. What are the actual chances of character and fitness finding an obscure and old police report? Is it worth disclosing knowing that if I do I will have to provide the awful police report which misrepresents so fully what happened and makes me look so bad? For example, police report says I explicitly mentioned oral sex, which I didn't. I believe I am also entitled to have the disposition expunged. The police report and disposition are the only records that exist.
What do you guys think? Disclose and explain? Don't disclose. Any insight would be appreciated.
And please don't pass judgment and call me names or tell me I am not fit to practice law. I have never had any encounter with the law otherwise, don't drink and drive, or use drugs and am generally a very kind and helpful person.

As am I. I wish the world were such that people who found themselves in situations like yours could be open and honest about it and that others' reactions would be more along the lines of mine, i.e. that I respect you all the more for pulling yourself through a difficult situation and still getting to where you are today. You're worth more than a hundred of the silver-spoon types you'll likely get to know once you start school.zoomzoom88 wrote:Fwiw I'm very impressed with you.
This line was criminally under appreciated IMOBubbles1012 wrote:I got a 169 on my lsat and have a great GPA, an interesting work history, and a great personal statement.
You always were my favorite when I woke up in opposite world, which was never.BigZuck wrote:This line was criminally under appreciated IMOBubbles1012 wrote:I got a 169 on my lsat and have a great GPA, an interesting work history, and a great personal statement.
Are we really supposed to treat this like its real? The Bubbles and 169 thing lead me to believe its not (well that and the content of it I guess).
If its real then I can't see why you would consult TLS but not the state bar of the state you're planning on practicing in.
You keep editing your posts dude, I'm not sure which version to quote.B.B. True, true. I think treating it like it's real in case it can help someone else or on the off chance it actually is is a good policy in general.Brut wrote:lol i didn't notice that
idk, i'm sure the advice itt will help somebody out at some point
I'm confident this isn't 100% misogyny's faultBubbles1012 wrote:So guys for the record--
Not a troll. This is real. I have another Tls name, the bubbles thing was just to conceal my identity close to 100%, a completely random pick. I e-mailed a few attorneys today to arrange appointments but I wanted to get some advice because I am aware that sometimes people with insight can be found on these boards.
Since I was never booked or fingerprinted wanted to know if it was something that would be worth disclosing... Too much mosogyny and stigma out there to be glib.

That said, if you can make sure everything is expunged, do that and don't mention it going forward. We're not there yet, so do your best to play by their rules.
