To what extent do adcomms do fact checking?

I'm just speaking in pure hypotheticals here, but let's say I was part of a volunteer program doing XYZ (true). And on an application I said I did ABC while at XYZ, even though that may or may not be entirely true. To what extent do ad comms do fact checking? They'll probably make a call to listed employers to verify I worked at what place, but how far do they dig?

The only applicable section I can find in that is the "lack of candor" section, and it only references things that I may have omitted, citing public intoxication as an example.

It doesn't seem relevant to the question at hand, because I know a guy who's applying while saying he "handled multi-million dollar portfolios at XYZ company over the summer", when in actually he "handled" them by taking them in his hands and making photo copies as the intern, or at best worked on a month long project creating a model that any experienced employee could have done in a day.

Yeah, and that guy is an unethical sack of shit. And WTF is handling a multi-million dollar portfolio? He's luck he didn't get called on that bullshit from the start. If they found out you lied you'd surely be fucked. I'd also get out of this habit now, because I read stories all of the time about high level execs that lied about their credentials and then get found out 30 years into their career.

Also none of this stuff generally matters, just GPA/LSAT. There's no real upside to lying and some definite potential downside.

Admissions aren't going to check. But getting into law school is not particularly helpful if you can't get licensed to practice.
