Top Law Schools

Graduated in May just under top 1/3 from Fordham. OK undergrad, 1 year of vaguely tax-related work experience during law school. Got no offered from the firm I was working for in February (mid-sized, business got ridiculously slow during my 3L year). No debt at all. I am currently jobless.

What are my chances of getting into the NYU Tax llm program? Its the only llm program I would consider. I would need to take out about half of the tuition in loans, but I could live w/ parents so nothing for living expenses.

Also, do you think it would be advisable to go?

You would have a good chance at getting in but not guaranteed. Good grades in tax courses and a rec. from a tax person would help.

That said, you should know that you want to do tax and realize that the llm won't likely be a boost into a large law firm. I think a typical outcome is making $80-110K at a big 4. Generally, a top tax llm is not a second shot a biglaw, but it can lead to a good tax career if you are sure that's what you want to do. You can get this same result at G'town and UFlorida too--often for less money.
