I generally think people are way too eager to write addenda, but one could be useful here to help prevent adcomms from drawing the adverse inference about your declining GPA that you mention.

That said, you do not need to go into the gory details. An addendum is supposed to be very short (aim for four sentences or fewer). You can talk about "a protracted period of difficult/trying family-related issues" or "child custody issues," or something along those lines. Adcomms don't need to hear about the cheating and just how depressed you were and so forth. You don't need to discuss your marital status. Just provide a general heads-up that you had to deal with difficult things in your life during the period in which your grades declined. I think that the more detail you give, the more likely an adcomm is to wonder if you will hold up to the stress of law school if a shit-happens event occurs in your personal life at the same time (as happens for many people).

You could try using that as your personal statement instead of writing an addendum. Def seems like a topic that could make a strong PS.
