Top Law Schools

Hi all

I was wondering what the sentiment is on having a student at a law school write an LOR for that particular school. In this case, a former coworker of mine, who I worked directly under in a research role, will be attending a top school next year. I am wondering if it will be beneficial at all for me to have them write an LOR for their school only, in conjunction with the two academic ones I will also have. Thanks for the help!

From my (potentially ignorant) perspective, I wouldn't view it as that helpful just because he/she is not actually at the school yet. If you worked under him/her and he/she was your supervisor AND this person had been at the school for awhile/graduated from there then maybe it would be something cool to have. However, to me this just seems like you are trying to focus on WHO it is rather than WHAT they say about you.

Just my opinion and I could be very wrong.

EDIT: you are talking about THE school you are applying to right? As in this person is going to the school you are trying to get into. If not, then NO that would not do anything and might even hurt you for some questionable judgement.

Thanks for your help and advice. To your edit, yes that is correct. I would have my either two or three standard recs (academic/work related), but then include this along with those for this particular school. It's just a thought I had, and I was wondering if anyone had an experience with a similar situation. I see what you mean in terms of it coming off as trying to pull strings rather than provide substantive insight into my aptitude. Thanks again!
