June Deadlines?

Back in January I decided to wait to apply to law school until next cycle. I signed up to take the LSAT this June, then visited the law school I hope to attend. The admissions rep told me that they extended their deadline to July 7. I have been doing very well in my LSAT prep, and will definitely be a gpa/lsat "splitter." My question: Is anyone ever admitted this late in the game? I have heard from people that I should be applying early in the cycle, since I'm going to be a splitter, as it will be more likely that I'll be "given a chance." I have also heard, though, that the school may be extending their deadline because they are trying to fill all of their openings for first year students this fall, and that it may work in my favor. Can anyone give me some insight?

I personally don't know of any reputable school that extends deadlines so late. In addition, wouldn't one think that most (all?) of the scholarship money would be gone?

That's a really good point that I had not considered. Though, I hadn't expected to receive much in the way of scholarships since I did not perform very well my freshman year of college.

Yes people have been admitted this late in the game.
I've heard of it happening at tier 1 schools, but not the T14.
I also know one person who got admitted in July w/ full ride. She had really good numbers for the school.
I don't think it's a good idea unless you get a sweet deal from a school you'd be happy to attend.

I find these comments to be interesting.
It makes it sound like there is a big pile of cash sitting in the admissions office, which they are shoving into envelopes for their admitted students.
I am sure that most schools have a fairly specific budget in mind, but in the vast majority of cases schools are not 'paying' scholarships, they are simply offering discounts on over inflated tuition. Think of it as buying a mattress that cost the store $400, they put up a sign saying that the cost is $2200, but it is on sale for $1000 (what a deal!!). The store did not 'spend' or 'lose' $1200 in making the deal.
