Notre Dame drastic LSAT drop

Post by eriedoctrine » Thu May 15, 2014 7:26 pm

How did Notre Dame drop from 166 -> 163 LSAT this year and not even increase their class size? What happened?
Other T25 schools are still holding somewhat steady or a 1 pt drop.

It was probably due to them not being open to scholly negotiations while their peers (WUSTL, Emory, GW) were more willing to play ball.

This. Last year, I believe the cap on scholarships was 20k/yr.

Many schools walk a pretty thin line with their medians. Once you get below the median target, things tend to drop off very quickly, and if you come up even just 5-10 students short of your target you can see a big drop.

Let's be honest, if you had a 50% chance or better at big law from Notre Dame people would be lining up to get in even if the school had a self-flagellation requirement.

I think most law students would go for that actually, even without a religious context. Especially without one.

Yah but it doesn't. You could say this about fucking Cooley or Regent.

Hell, I'm self-flagellating right now and Jesus sure as hell isn't in the equation.

They didn't make competitive scholarship offers. That's why I didn't end up there.

ND seems to be a lot more generous with schollys this year, but rumor has it they're planning on having a larger class size than last year while many/most peer schools are reducing their class size to retain medians. Should be interesting to see what happens.

I mean, with a 167 I was waitlisted at ND yet ended up with a near full scholarship at WUSTL and several significant scholarships at comparable/arguably better schools. So there's that.

That massive drop is killing the labels on our chart, damn.

WUSTL outplayed them again this cycle. ND was "trying a new strategy" of not negotiating, according to the admissions office.

EDIT: With that said, LSAT medians should not be a factor in the decision on where to attend.

This was definitely my experience last cycle, they pulled some weird shiz and it seems to have cost them.
