I have been out of school for a few years working and while I did not develop a particularly close relationship with any of my professors, I do have a great relationship with my boss and I feel I would be able to get a great letter of recommendation from him. Given his personality though, I don't know how good of an idea it would be to hint that I plan on leaving within the next year or so (which a letter of recommendation would invariably do). I am worried that if for some reason law school doesn't work out - I will be stuck in a sour relationship with my boss.

Any insights?
I was in the same predicament, been working since college graduation now I want to go back to school. I decided against asking for a LOR from my employer although at first it seemed to be a good idea since they could attest to my work ethic, character, etc.

I decided against it because first it would be awkward to ask because they have no clue that I'm planning on leaving this job and I didn't want to deal with their reactions or possibly risk my job stability for whatever reason. I asked college professors who I remained in contact with and it ended up working out. Based on my boss' personality and office politics, I decided to save myself the drama
