Is it legal? Do people do this to extend the cycle for negotiation purposes?

You can do it-- it's frowned upon, but you can do it. Just FYI, they can see when you have multiple deposits. The advice I was given was to put the deposits in at the last minute, as it will take longer for them to notice that way. They may contact you asking what's up.

You're not a dick for doing it, and it's perfectly fine. In fact it can be a good negotiating tool, since it shows the school that it's on your short list.

I would recommend against it.

Unless you are TRULY split on whether to go or not. It clogs up the process. The only way I would do it is unless there was an equal probability that I would attend either school. If you prefer one to the other, you should more than likely go with that one.

Don't some schools consider it an automatic withdrawal if you deposit elsewhere? You may just want to doublecheck before you do this to make sure you're not screwing yourself.

I think this was mentioned on the Spivey thread a day or to ago. He said something along the lines of check the fine print, as some schools do put in statements that they withdrawl offers, but he was unaware of this actually happening.

My understanding is that first seat deposit doesn't matter. Second seat deposit is when you should narrow it down.

They can only see after May 15, and after that date many schools take weeks before they'll send their lists to LSAC, per Texas Tech's Dean Perez. Scholarship money often opens up after the April deadlines so it's a good idea to deposit at 2-3 places and see what happens.
