ATL? Tipping the Scales? Does LST just have statistics on the schools or do they actually have a list? I know UNSWR are useless.
Are there any others that I am not aware of?

Each of the 40 factors in the rankings is given equal weight (2.5% each), which reduces the impact of any single factor on the overall rankings.

Love how they allow HLS to rank first. Even the most clueless 0L doesn't believe Cooley is a better school than Harvard.

Overall, a lot of the most egregious stuff in their rankings is probably completely plausible to a layman. American 19 spots ahead of Stanford? UMiami 17 ahead of Duke? If you told me that two and a half years ago I wouldn't have batted an eye.

You don't want to give any single factor too much weight. American feeds into the DC market and with its location you can intern DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR at federal agencies that you simply can't at Stanford unless you are a visiting student.

USNWR isn't useless or irrelevant. USNWR is very overblown and over-emphasized, yes, but it provides somewhat reasonable approximations. That's not to say it should influence anyone's school decision, but it's likely less useless than the other rankings in existence. ATL has potential, I guess.

There's also the argument to be made that they're relevant because the majority of people could reasonably be said to believe they are relevant. For example: we know there is almost certainly not an omnipotent man floating in the sky who will be deeply offended if you eat meat today, but because the majority of the population believes there is an omnipotent man floating in the sky who will be deeply offended if you eat meat today, we can't pretend the idea of the man in the sky is irrelevant.

ETA: Also, I would then take the Unemployed/Underemployed figures, and rank them from lowest to highest, and come up with some sort of reasonable weighted average of the two groups. Some schools should probably be lower if they leave 25% of their graduates totally SOL even if their biglaw/fed numbers are a little higher.

You missed the boat on this one - I think that what IAFG is saying is that while Michigan is higher ranked and has higher admissions standards (so yes, the kids that go to Michigan probably got into NU), it is stupid to attend it over Northwestern considering Northwestern wins the battle of the only metric that matters.

Is Michigan still harder to get into? NU has a higher median LSAT as well as higher median GPA (3.75/169 versus 3.71/168). Yeah, NU is easier if you have 3.1/171, but it seems like Michigan would be easier if you had a 3.7/168.

But yeah, if you give that kind of weight to USNWR you're an idiot. Would you rather go to Skadden than DPW or STB because of its Vault rank?
