I was just wondering if any of you have had either a personal experience or have any knowledge about how Harvard weighs being Non-URM hispanic. Both my parents are hispanic and were born in South America and i am confident that i can write a compelling diversity statement. I have seen a lot of non-URM Hispanics overperform their numbers this cycle especially at Harvard. Are these outliers or is that the norm? I've tried to search similar threads but none of them really have an answer. I am also unsure what, if any, effect Harvard's question that asks if you are hispanic or latino as opposed to specifying PR or MA has on the application. Can they see what kind of hispanic you are from the LSAC report?

Because only Mexicans and Puerto Ricans are considered URM hispanics.

I'm a Central American applicant from this cycle, and I don't think I out performed my numbers. However, I didn't write a diversity statement about overcoming hardship. Frankly, I was fortunate and there wasn't any to overcome. That being said, if you have had a difficult life experience relating to your hispanic heritage and were to write a statement about it, I imagine that would make you a very different applicant than me.

Additionally, I also noticed that some schools asked which flavor of hispanic you are and some don't. Wish I could tell you if that helped me or not, but my admissions results are too mixed to answer that question conclusively.
