Why do schools offer ED?

This may be a dumb question and I have tried searching but didn't find a relevant post (though I apologize if there was and I failed to find it). Why do schools offer ED? I mean the kind offered at Penn, UVA, etc. rather than the kind that guarantees a full ride. We know that law school is primarily a numbers game and wouldn't accepting people with a GPA/LSAT below medians/25ths just drop their overall numbers? I can only think of two reasons why law schools would do this. One would be guaranteeing a high GPA or high LSAT (successful ED applicants usually have one number way above 75% from what I have seen). The other reason would be guaranteeing an applicant paying sticker price.

Acceptance/yield rates matter to schools. ED ensures those applicants will enroll.

Those both sound like good reasons. If you want a better answer, ask on the Spivey thread.

That's pretty much why.

Do ED applicants generally not receive scholarship offers?

Generally not. What incentive would the school have for offering you a scholly? They got you no matter what!

Good point. The incentive, I suppose, would be to NOT deter people who are really set on coming to your school from doing ED.

Basically.
