Taking the LSAT *after* being admitted to get scholarships

If you're already admitted to law schools and made deposits to one or more of them, does it makes sense to take the LSAT again (June) in the hopes of scoring high enough to negotiate a scholarship? Does anyone know anyone who has done that?

sure. but if you're in a position where getting a higher LSAT score would get you more scholarship money, you probably have a high GPA and low LSAT. so you should take the LSAT in june and reapply next cycle if you improve.

I don't get why 90% of people don't retake in June after they've been admitted. It can't possibly hurt, and it seems crazy not to retake unless you're getting a full scholarship at your dream school (or going to a school with no merit aid) or you're totally, 100% committed to going to law school that year and wouldn't even take a year off to reapply with a 180.

That said...if everyone did retake after being admitted, it would probably do really interesting things to the curve.

EDIT: I can see why it would also be pointless for splitters.

I'm doing precisely this. And, hey, if I pull a 180, maybe I'll wait and reapply :D

Optimist Prime wrote:What Redsox says is completely credited. One lesser known point that I'm 95% sure of is that LSAC counts the June LSAT as part of the next admission cycle. Because of this your June score will not be reported to schools unless you call LSAC and explain to them that you need it released. (As opposed to scores during the current cycle E.G. October, December, February which are auto-sent to schools that you have applied to).

Go for it!
Everything is cr, but I retook in June and didn't request my new score be sent. Schools still ended up getting them though.

So schools can see your June score without you directly sending it to them even if they've already accepted/waitlisted you?
I've already been accepted and waitlisted at a few schools and was thinking of taking the June LSAT to either get off a waitlist or hit 170+ and reapply for the next cycle. I wouldn't want to retake just to have a lower score though and then have schools that have waitlisted me see the lower score.

I did a little searching and haven't found anything definitive about LSAC sending your June LSAT to the schools you've applied to. Anyone wanna help clear this up?

A related question. Which schools have a reputation for offering/upping scholarships in June? To my understanding, most will have exhausted their budget. Maybe some T30 private schools? What about WashU or Vandy? I'm going to retake in June as well and I was just wondering some of the same things as OP.

I know WUSTL did this last cycle, even to the point of offering full rides.

This came up in the Spivey thread, thought it may be relevant here as well.

cron1834 wrote:Mike and/or Karen, thanks for contributing, as always. Quick question:

I am planning on re-taking in June for a reconsideration of financial awards at whichever school I end up depositing at. I'm complete and in-review at most places right now. B/C there's only one testing center in my town and it seems to fill up quickly (had to drive a few hours out of town in December - no bueno) in spite of declining LSAT numbers, I'd like to sign up early for June. If I sign up before admit/deny decisions, are you aware of any impact (negative, positive, bureaucratic delay) this will have on my file? I am hunching that this won't even be noticed. Reasonable guess?

Also - retake in June for $$ is still a credited strategy this cycle, correct? I have the financial resources to eat deposits if no one plays nice and/or I don't improve.
Cron,

100% credited strategy for potentially upping your award. (Karen doesn't know what credited means -- don't tell her it's funny).

To be clear, schools can see that you have registered for June if they run a report and cross reference with you (doubtful but possible), some schools might not take your June LSAT without a lot of negotiating first (e.g. SLS), and it is *possible* but highly unlikely that a school would hold until that score. Very highly unlikely.

So if I were you I would either register a bit later (you know that center better than I do, says Mr. Obvious), or register now. I agree with the June test strategy if I thought I could score higher on the quiz.

Per the above post, I am seeking patent protection on this strategy. OP, you may negotiate with me for licensing agreement via PM.

Ok, but there's a risk of diminishing returns here. We have to set up a limited-entry guild to protect ourselves from the open market.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the school requires withdrawal of all other offers as part of first deposit.
3. The method of claim 2, wherein the school is USC :(

To those who have done this: If your score goes up, how do you broach the subject with your desired school? Just send them an e-mail along the lines of hey, my stats have changed and I'd like to be reconsidered for merit aid? Also, how would it work if the $$ you were at had already been negotiated up from a previous offer?

I believe that the proper etiquette in this scenario is to send an embedded youtube clip of Cuba Gooding Jr.'s Show Me The Money bit.

Exactly why I asked man, I'm already planning on using that tactic in my initial scholarship talks, gotta try to keep things fresh ;)

Ahhh, I see. In that case, if it is a t-14 school you will likely want to follow up with Abba's Money Money Money.

rstahl, did not know that about USC. In my case, I am absolutely willing to withdraw and sit out 'til next cycle if someone plays hardball with me. If you withdraw everywhere else you certainly lose leverage, UNLESS you're willing to blow it up and start a new cycle. Not everyone is willing to do that, granted.
