Would doing a fellowship for a U.S. Congressman have any weight in terms of softs with admissions?

Just started one and am thinking about it in terms of admissions if, down the line, I get waitlisted at my top school.

I did a internship in a senator's office in the fall after I graduated. Applied to the state school before the internship got flat out denied, did the internship, got a nice LOR from the Senator and re-applied to the state school and was admitted. same gpa and same lsat. Worked out in my case, however, the school and state are very insular and politicians are very powerful and respected in the state.

As applied to other schools that i re-applied to, worked the same way for only 1 or 2. most still dinged me, though the state school was my first choice anyways

No weight

Half the peeps applying to lawl school are poli sci majors who interned/worked for a MOC and have a generic "X was a great [title here], smart, hard worker and will be a valuable contributor to the [X] law school community" LOR

It isn't useless. It should help you craft a narrative about yourself
