Would this count as a soft?
Would being a Youtube Partner count as a decent soft? Let's say I have 10k+ subscribers and get paid by Youtube as a result. Would this help my admission chances even marginally?

I'm not sure it will give you a boost. I suppose anything you include on a resume can be considered a "soft"...but not all softs will give you a boost. I don't think it would hurt at all, though.SoapyIllusion wrote:Would being a Youtube Partner count as a decent soft? Let's say I have 10k+ subscribers and get paid by Youtube as a result. Re: Would this count as a soft?
I doubt it'll give you a noticeable boost, but it could definitely go on a resume. Either as employment, if it's actually a substantial amount of money, or an interests section.

I could see this "soft" being relevant and possibly helpful if you planned on going into entertainment law

I think it could give you a minor boost if you frame it the right way.

Dunno if it would help but that sounds pretty cool.SoapyIllusion wrote:Would being a Youtube Partner count as a decent soft? Let's say I have 10k+ subscribers and get paid by Youtube as a result. Would this help my admission chances even marginally?

True, but instead of the word "hivemind" I prefer the term "groupthink".iamgeorgebush wrote:Disclaimer: None of the posters here (myself included) really know what the fuck they're talking about. Welcome to the TLS hivemind.

Re: Would this count as a soft?
It depends what you're doing on Youtube.
If you're pulling nearly-illegal pranks on the streets to random people, then no, it won't help, it'll probably hurt.
If you're just offering commentary on the latest video games, then no, it probably won't do anything.
On the other hand if you developed your own method of learning sign-language and are offering instructional videos to help families learn sign-language, then yeah, something like that if you play it right can be a soft that might help a little.

I can't decide whether my primary response to that was fear or sympathy. I mean, I feel kinda bad for her, but if I were an adcomm, I would be terrified.lawschool22 wrote:Oh god.Max324 wrote:You could always give this a shot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n20bwnG1EsY
Also, why did she buy SO much Yale swag before getting accepted? Even if she had been accepted, no one needs like 40 different college shirts.

I can't believe I wasted time looking through the comments, but I was curious. Yale shirts were her dad's (he was an alum).koalacity wrote:I can't decide whether my primary response to that was fear or sympathy. She didn't get in. Ended up at Oberlin.
