Can i mention friends who went to the school in my Why X for Michigan?

I don't see why it would be inappropriate, as long as you write it in a genuine way (person X has talked a lot about school Y and based on those conversations I think school Y would be a good fit) and don't slip into something that sounds like "I know person X, and person X went to school Y, therefore I deserve to go to school Y."
